How to Set Up a Respirex Decon System in Under 10 Minutes

When it comes to emergency response, speed matters. A decontamination unit is often one of the first critical assets deployed and every minute saved in setup can be a minute gained in protecting lives and keeping responders safe.
At MFC International, we design our decon systems with ease, speed, and reliability in mind. With the right training and preparation, your team can set up a decon in less than 10 minutes. Here’s how.
- Choose the Right Location
Not all ground is level, and that can make a big difference. Position your decon so that the water tray corner is at the lowest point. This allows water to naturally flow toward the extraction pump, avoiding build-up and keeping the area safe.
Good news: even our mass decon units are light enough to be repositioned after inflation, so you can fine-tune the placement before loading equipment inside!
- Inflate the Decon
Once your team has unloaded and positioned the unit, inflation is quick and straightforward. Depending on the size of the decon, this can be done by one or two people.
Meanwhile, other team members can immediately move on to the next step - accessories.
- Deploy the Accessories
Accessories vary depending on the customer’s emergency scenario and risk assessment, but a well-trained team will know exactly what goes where. Each member should have a clear role, so accessories can be connected and positioned efficiently. Some examples of accessories used are a pillow tank, generator, inlet water pump, etc. View our range of accessories here.
As soon as possible, get the equipment running. This ensures everything is tested, working, and ready for use without delay.
- Suit Up and Get to Work!
If the same team deploying the decon is also donning protective suits, they can start suiting up once their setup responsibilities are complete. This overlap helps minimise downtime and gets the response underway faster.
- Training Is Everything
Even the best-designed equipment is only as effective as the team operating it. That’s why regular rehearsal is crucial. Practising the deployment until it becomes second nature ensures your team won’t hesitate under pressure.
Equipment maintenance also plays a key role: well-maintained gear should pose no issues during deployment, allowing responders to stay focused on the emergency at hand.
- Designed for Real Emergencies
Our decontamination systems are built to be simple, fast, and intuitive because setting up a decon isn’t your team’s main job, it’s part of a much bigger response. A system that’s easy to learn and quick to deploy frees up emergency staff to do what they do best: protecting people.
